Lawrence Gooley is an award-winning author who has hiked, climbed, bicycled, and canoed in the Adirondack Mountains for more than 40 years. With a lifetime love of research, writing, and history, he has authored 24 books and more than 200 articles on the region’s past.
Lawrence has won the McMaster’s Prize for Historical Writing and the Adirondack Literary Award. His nonfiction title, Terror in the Adirondacks, was a regional best-seller for four years, and in 2013, he appeared on Discovery ID as narrator for one of his many true-murder stories.
For several years, he has written a weekly history column for the award-winning online magazine, Adirondack Almanack. His articles also appear on The New York History Blog. Lawrence and Bloated Toe Publishing have been featured in the magazine Publishers Weekly, and his work was cited in Smithsonian Air & Space magazine.
Lawrence and his partner, Jill Jones, founded Bloated Toe Enterprises in 2004. They have now published over 80 titles, including over 30 reproductions of out-of-print regional history books, and also offer web design.
